Aderonke Ige
My name is Aderonke Ige. I am an African woman, lawyer, social justice crusader, environmental activist and community organiser. My work centers intersections of climate justice, water, and women's rights in the nuanced ecosystem of social reproduction and political economy of development. I work with communities to build power and participate in their own governance through the promotion of public ownership and democratic control of collective resources. I founded Help Initiative for Social Justice and Humanitarian Development to advance the rights of communities and facilitate people-centered development in Nigeria and across Africa.Commitment
Actively engaged in development, community organising and people-power building, spanning over a decade. "What you are is a gift to you, but what you make of it is your gift to your world". That is perhaps my favourite quote and one of my guiding principles. Welcome to my space!Rethinking Development- Chevening journey
My hands-on experiences and commitment to development led me to interrogate the ideas of development and the practice of it, with specific interest in African development. I undertook Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, on the award of Chevening scholarship in 2023.Trajectory
My offerings and undertakings include impact-based development-knowledge facilitation, design thinking, training, capacity building and actions that have translated into policy change, reforms and people-centered legislation such as the Community Service Law of Oyo State, Anti-kidnapping Law, Violence against Women Prohibition Law and the Prohibition of Land-grabbing legislation.
